Information for Out-of-Town Patients

Plastic surgery patients often search around the country to find the most qualified plastic surgeon to meet their needs. Some patients also enjoy the privacy and anonymity associated with an out-of-town plastic surgeon.

Your Consultation

Photos can be sent to Dr. Sullivan by either e-mail or regular mail. Dr. Sullivan will evaluate your situation and discuss the possibilities with you. When you travel to our Providence, Rhode Island, the consultation process will be completed in person. Typically, Dr. Sullivan will want to see you in person the day before your plastic surgery to review your case and to complete your examination.

Pre-Operative Appointment

In most cases, Dr. Sullivan will request preoperative blood work, other tests related to your specific situation, and preoperative clearance from your personal physician. We will help to coordinate this with your personal physician.

Postoperative Care

Depending on your surgery, you may spend the night of surgery back at your hotel with a friend or a private nurse. Or you may require - or prefer - staying at an "after-care" facility.

Returning Home

Based on your specific case, Dr. Sullivan will tell you how long you must stay in the Providence, Rhode Island area. It will vary with the procedure, your particular medical condition, how far from home you will be, how you will be traveling back, etc. Dr. Sullivan will take every step to help you return home as soon as possible.

One concern of some out-of-town patients is what they will do if a problem arises after they return home, in the weeks or months after surgery. Fortunately, problems are rare, but if an issue arises, Dr. Sullivan will arrange for you to be seen promptly by a qualified colleague in your area, and then determine the proper course of action.
