Patient 5

Details:

Procedure:

Bilateral Breast Augmentation with Breast Lift after Breast Changes with Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Procedure Notes:

This 43-year-old woman was concerned with the size, shape and laxity of her breasts. She has a history of breastfeeding with significant changes of her breasts. She felt her breasts had deflated and become “droopy.” She desired breasts with a more full and natural appearance.

The breast augmentation and breast lift surgery was performed using intravenous sedation anesthesia, rather than general anesthesia. To have it be a pain-free surgery, we used intercostal nerve blocks. This also helped to keep the patient comfortable after her breast augmentation and breast lift surgery.

Breast implant sizers were used in the operating room to try to help determine the implant size that would best match the patient’s body artistically and yet be safe for her in the long term. The patient’s breasts were augmented bilaterally with 339 cc silicone gel-filled Natrelle® Style 15 implants. The breast implants were placed under the muscle (subpectoral). Her breasts were lifted using a periareolar incision (a circular incision at the edge of the areola), as well as a vertical incision between the areola and breast fold (sometimes called a lollipop incision). This incision was needed to adequately lift the breasts. Dr. Patrick Sullivan tries to limit breast incisions to a circular incision at the edge of the areola; however, this is not always possible when there is much excessive skin to be removed.
