Many people go through life with self-consciousness about the appearance of their ears. They feel that, perhaps, their ears are too large or protrude too prominently from the sides of the head.

Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is a plastic surgery technique designed to reduce the prominence of the ears and bring them closer to the head. Dr. Patrick K. Sullivan—our highly skilled plastic surgeon—can perform ear surgery right here in Rhode Island, and help you improve the appearance of your ears.

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Ear surgery can typically be performed on an outpatient basis. Candidates for the procedure are usually those past the age of 8, allowing enough time for the cartilage in the ears to fully mature. Dr. Sullivan will make small incisions on the backs of the ears, then reshapes the cartilage so that it bends more toward the head, reducing the protruding appearance. Although there may be some bruising and swelling after the procedure, the recovery process from otoplasty is typically somewhat brief, and most patients can resume normal daily routines after about a week. A special headband will need to be worn for a few weeks after the procedure to ensure the ears heal properly and remain in the desired position. Patients are also cautioned to avoid activities that may harm the ears while they are healing.

Earlobe Contouring

Dr. Sullivan also delivers earlobe rejuvenation by contouring and even shortening earlobes. If you feel like earlobe contouring or shortening may be a solution for you, please call our office today to schedule your consultation.

The staff is so caring, knowledgeable and congenial. I felt like part of a family.
